A grant from the Catherine Bertini Trust Fund
We are happy to announce that Speak Up has been awarded a grant from the Catherine Bertini Trust Fund for Girls’ Education. This grant will fund community meetings for parents and family members of girls who are eligible to join our GEP. The community meetings educate parents and family members on the detrimental effects of child marriage, and the benefits of keeping girls in school. Speak Up plans to conduct more than 300 community meetings in 2021, motivating parents to value a different future for their daughters than child marriage, which perpetuates female poverty and family poverty.
This grant from the Catherine Bertini Trust Fund for Girls’ Education will also help us bring another 110 sixth-grade girls into our GEP in 2021. We are so grateful to the Catherine Bertini Trust Fund for partnering with us and allowing our GEP to have an even greater impact in 2021 than otherwise would have been possible.
A press release announcing Speak Up (and one other organization) as the recipient of this grant may be found here.
