A Grant from Dining for Women

We are happy to announce that Speak Up has been awarded a grant from Dining for Women, to fund the implementation of our Girls Health and Safety Program in 2021.  Dining for Women is a non-profit giving circle dedicated to empowering women and girls living in extreme poverty.  The grant we are receiving from Dining for Women will allow us to conduct a total of 36 health and safety trainings over the course of the coming year, for more than 1,600 girls and young women who participate in our Girls Education Program (GEP).  We are so grateful to Dining for Women for partnering with us.

The Girls Health and Safety Program will be such a valuable aspect of our GEP in the coming year. The coronavirus pandemic has focused the attention of people around the world on the importance of proper hygiene. But infectious diseases are just one of many potential threats to the health and safety of girls and women in Bangladesh. Our Girls Health and Safety Program will educate and equip girls in the GEP in an wide array of behaviors that safeguard their personal health and safety. It will strengthen girls’ voices in the actions and decisions that affect their own lives. And it will reinforce each girl’s sense of her own worth, her rights, and the resources available to her if her health or safety is ever endangered.

We look forward to connecting with all members of the Dining for Women community, and to partnering together to create a new reality for girls in Bangladesh.
